Animal Mechanicals is a CGI-animated, action-adventure series catering to viewers under seven years of age. The show originates in a world where everything, including the heroes of the series and the environment they live in, can be taken apart and snapped together in different styles and patterns. This results in a series of challenges that the protagonists must go through to reach their goal. There are five main characters in Animal Mechanicals. The green dinosaur Rex is the leader. Referred to as Sarge by the other Mechanicals, Rex has super-animal strength. He can also turn into a backhoe to dig, plow, and carry heavy objects. The other Mechanicals also have unique abilities. The pink and purple Unicorn has the power of Mechana-Fly, sprouting rockets and rotors for quick acceleration. The tiny Mouse also has rockets, but uses hers to make a quick dash across the ground. The competitive Mechanical known as Sasquatch can bounce across the ground as well as stretch his arms and legs to get to the hard to reach places. The last Mechanical, the smart and curious Komodo, has the ability to generate gadgets the rest of the team needs at any given moment. The Animal Mechanicals get each new mission from Island Owl, who displays the information as pictograms on her face. Each adventure involves several small challenges to surpass in order to reach a status of Mission Accomplished. Along the way the Mechanicals rely on each other, as well as imaginary responses from the viewers, to choose the right character for the job. Animal Mechanicals is created and written by Jeff Rosen and produced by Halifax Film in cooperation with the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC). The show premiered in September of 2007 on the CBC with its original run of 40 episodes. Since then, the show has aired on Latin America's Discovery Kids network and The United Kingdom version Disney Junior. It currently runs on the CBC and The Hub network in the United States.
