The children's adorable animated television show Pound Puppies is a delightful look in to the antics and stories of Shelter 17 Pups. A wholesome entertainment suitable for animal loving children and adults alike the show conveys strong moral messages about friendship, respect, and compassion. Join Lucky, Rebound, Cookie, Strudel, Squirt, Cup Cake, Patches and Niblet as they endeavor to match up poor homeless puppies to deserving and loving owners. The shelter staff thinks that they are responsible for these happy homecomings but the Pound Puppies really control the behind the scenes work to match up pup to owner. The show originally comes from a Tonka toyline sold in the 1980's to Hasbro. The shows origins stem from many stuffed toy plushy of puppies emblazoned with a Pp for Pound Puppies. It has since given rise to a movie and two television series. The Hub most recently took over the Pound Puppy line and created a television series from the line of plushies. It has since won a CINE Golden Eagle award for its high quality story line and animation. Additionally, the series won a HUMANITAS award for its episode "I Never Barked for My Father." In "I Never Barked for My Father" Lucky meets his long lost father Slick when Niblet brings in one of his friends and Slick to hide from the dog catcher. Lucky must deal with unresolved issues from his father's abandonment. A heady topic like parental abandonment may be too heavy for many children's televisions shows to take on, but Pound Puppies handles the topic well and may help children who are going through similar situations or helping a friend going through such a difficult situation.
