Ep 4. Greek Islands

In this episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, Bourdain travels to the Greek Islands to explore the food, drink, and culture of this beautiful part of the world.

Bourdain starts his journey in the island of Naxos, where he meets a local fisherman who takes him out to the open waters and shows him how to catch fish using traditional methods. Bourdain also visits a local market where he discovers an abundance of fresh produce and ingredients that are the foundation of Greek cuisine.

Next on his itinerary is a trip to Santorini, where Bourdain explores the island’s volcanic landscape and stunning beaches. He also visits a winery to learn more about the ancient art of winemaking and tries some of the island’s famous wines.

Bourdain then takes a ferry to Crete, the largest and southernmost island in Greece. Here, he explores the rugged countryside and learns about the island’s history and culture. He visits a traditional Cretan village where he tries some typical dishes such as moussaka and lamb with yogurt and herbs. He also takes part in a traditional Cretan wedding celebration and dances the night away with the locals.

In Mykonos, Bourdain discovers a different side of Greek island life. He visits the island’s famous party scene, where he tries some of the local cocktails and dances until dawn. He also visits a local bakery to try some traditional Greek pastries and bread.

Bourdain ends his journey in the island of Zakynthos, where he learns about the local delicacy called kleftiko – a lamb dish slow-cooked in a clay pot underground. He also visits a secluded beach where he indulges in some of the island’s seafood delicacies, such as octopus and grilled sardines.

Throughout the episode, Bourdain meets locals who share stories and traditions with him, giving him an intimate view of life on the Greek Islands. As always, his enthusiasm for food and drink is infectious, and his curiosity and sense of adventure make this episode a must-see for any food or travel enthusiast.
