Harley's Holiday is the twenty-fifth episode of the third season of Batman: The Animated Series. In this episode, Harley Quinn, the former henchwoman of the Joker, is released from Arkham Asylum. Determined to start anew, Harley decides to take a vacation to venture out into the city. However, as she tries to enjoy her freedom, she finds herself repeatedly encountering difficulties and misunderstandings that threaten to derail her newfound sense of independence.
Throughout the episode, we see Harley trying to fit in with the rest of society, but her naïveté and impulsive nature always land her in trouble. She unwittingly shoplifts from a department store, gets her purse stolen by a couple of street thugs, and even gets arrested by the police. Despite these obstacles, Harley remains determined to enjoy her first taste of freedom.
Meanwhile, Batman is on the hunt for the escaped Joker, who is still at large and causing chaos throughout Gotham City. He initially sees Harley as just another criminal in the Joker's crew, but after realizing that she is simply trying to start over, he attempts to help her out by giving her some money and advising her to leave the city.
Despite Batman's warning, Harley decides to stay in town and starts working at a themed restaurant. At first, everything seems to be going well, but soon the Joker reappears and takes her hostage in an attempt to lure Batman out of hiding. Batman, of course, comes to her rescue and apprehends the Joker, but not before Harley manages to beat up a gang of thugs who try to rob the restaurant.
In the end, Harley finally discovers a sense of purpose and belonging, as well as a newfound respect for Batman. The episode ends with her returning to Arkham Asylum, grateful for the experience of having a normal day and looking forward to the prospect of a better future.
