In this episode of Big Food Bucket List season 2, host John Catucci sets out to try some of the best crab dishes in America.
First up, John visits Baltimore to try some classic Maryland crab cakes at Faidley's Seafood. He learns about the history of the restaurant, which has been serving up seafood for over 100 years, and gets a lesson in how to properly pick a crab from a local expert.
Next, John heads to New Orleans to check out a unique spin on crab dishes at Trilly Cheesesteaks & Seafood. Here, he tries their famous crab cheesesteak, which combines two beloved foods into one delicious sandwich.
John's next stop is San Francisco, where he visits Fisherman's Wharf to try some Dungeness crab at Crab House at Pier 39. He learns about the sustainability efforts that go into fishing for Dungeness crab and gets to try a few different preparations, including crab cakes, crab Louie salad, and crab chowder.
In Seattle, John tries some Alaskan king crab legs at The Crab Pot. This restaurant is known for serving up seafood in buckets, and John gets to experience their signature Feast for Two, which includes a variety of crab dishes as well as other seafood favorites like shrimp, clams, and mussels.
Finally, John travels to Charleston, South Carolina to try some Lowcountry-style crab at Bowens Island Restaurant. Here, he learns about the importance of local ingredients in this coastal cuisine and gets to try some crab legs and crab stew that are sure to make his mouth water.
Throughout the episode, John shares his thoughts on each dish and talks to chefs and locals about the history and culture behind these unique crab dishes. He also learns some fun facts about crabs, such as how they can regrow their claws and the different species of crabs found around the world.
