Blackboard Wars is a documentary themed reality television show that is centered around education. It is a television series that portrays everyday instances of a particular demographic of American youth at school. This particular youth demographic is faced with trying to thrive and ultimately succeed in a scholastic environment filled with negativity. Though this environment is full of distress, there are still a select group of people who believe in a brighter future and with the help and constant efforts of these individuals, faculty, staff and student body work towards making this happen. Blackboard Wars focuses in on the environment of children attending John McDonogh High School a public school that is located in the Mid-city neighborhood of New Orleans, Luisiana. When taking a look at and analyzing John McDonogh High School, one might get the impression that there is a dark cloud hanging over this institution due to the internal hardships this school is faced with. In the show, viewers get to see a school going through troublesome waters as they deal with issues such as violence and a student body that is under achieving. The students themselves, outside of all things school related, carry their own burdens which manifest into a whole new set of problems. Some these issues include drug abuse, gang violence, homelessness and teenage pregnancy. All these hardships that encompass John McDonogh High School is what prompted individuals to work towards transforming the school. The staff members, which consist of the cast of the show, are some of those individuals. Blackboard Wars cast includes Ms. Neisha Riley the Student Counselor, Ms. Baye Cobb and Ms. Emily Wilcox who are the Math teachers, Ms. Irnessa Marie Campbell who is the Head of the Math Department and Dr. Marvin Thompson the Principal.
