Ichigo has finally defeated Grimmjow, but his victory is short lived as he is immediately thrown into another battle. This time, he faces Ulquiorra, the fourth espada. Ulquiorra is more powerful than Grimmjow and Ichigo immediately realizes that he is outmatched.

Meanwhile, Orihime is being held captive by Ulquiorra's subordinates. She tries to escape, but is quickly caught. Ulquiorra appears to her and tells her that she can see Ichigo's fight if she wants to. He takes her to a place where she can see Ichigo and Ulquiorra's battle.

As Orihime watches, she realizes that Ichigo is fighting a losing battle. She doesn't want to just watch, she wants to help. She decides that she has to use her powers to protect Ichigo.
