Captain Yamamoto decides to initiate the plan and orders the captains to gather as much Reishi as possible.

As Ichigo and his friends continue to search for a way to break through the barrier, they encounter a group of Shinigami who have been captured by the Wandenreich. The Shinigami reveal that the Wandenreich possess a power that allows them to steal the Bankai, the ultimate weapon of the Soul Reapers. This explains why Hitsugaya's Bankai did not work when he attempted to break the barrier.

The episode ends with the Wandenreich's leader, Juha Bach, arriving in the Soul Society. He warns the captains that the Wandenreich will destroy the Soul Society and declares war. The captains prepare to fight as the fate of the Soul Society hangs in the balance.
