In season 2 episode 4 of Blue Bloods titled "Innocence", the Reagan family faces a tough case involving the death of a young girl. While trying to find the killer, they discover that the most obvious suspect, a convicted pedophile, is actually innocent. This revelation leads them to investigate further, and they uncover a web of deceit and corruption.
Frank, the patriarch of the Reagan family and the Police Commissioner of New York City, is adamant about finding the real killer. He assigns his son Danny, a detective in the NYPD, to lead the investigation. Danny, who has a reputation for being a tough cop, goes all out to solve the case. He visits the victim's family and gets a description of a suspicious-looking man who was seen around the girl before she went missing. Danny and his team run multiple leads, but none of them pan out.
In the meantime, the pedophile who was initially a suspect, becomes a victim of police brutality. Jamie, Frank's youngest son and a police officer, is unfortunate enough to witness the incident. He immediately reports it to his superiors, but nobody seems to care. The victim, it appears, has no rights. The Reagan family is known for being tough on crime, but they are also keen on upholding the law. Jamie is conflicted about his duty to his fellow officers and his sense of justice.
The plot thickens when it is revealed that the victim's father was in debt to a group of shady characters. Danny believes that the girl may have been killed as a warning to her father. His theory is reinforced when he finds out that the same group of people had intimidated a witness who saw the suspicious man with the victim. Danny and his team then confront the witness, who initially denies everything, but eventually agrees to testify.
Meanwhile, the Reagan family gathers to celebrate Frank's birthday. The family is portrayed as close-knit and supportive of each other. Frank expresses his gratitude to his family for their love and support. At the same time, however, he is worried about Danny's lack of progress in the case. He encourages him to keep pushing and not give up.
As the investigation progresses, Danny finds himself with a suspect in custody. He seems to have a watertight case, but his conscience is nagging him. He is not convinced that the suspect is the real killer. Danny's dilemma is compounded by the fact that he knows who the real killer is.
The episode features a sub-plot involving Erin, Frank's daughter and an Assistant District Attorney. She is tasked with prosecuting a drug dealer, but her star witness is proving to be unreliable. Erin is shown to be tenacious and resourceful as she tries to get the witness to cooperate.
"Innocence" is an intense and suspenseful episode that keeps the viewers engaged from start to finish. It showcases the Reagan family as a group of individuals who are passionate about their work and their commitment to justice. The performances by the cast are top-notch, and the writing is crisp and efficient. This episode is a testament to the quality of the show and its ability to deliver memorable storylines.
