In Booze Traveler season 4 episode 6 titled "Asia's Hidden Gem", host Jack Maxwell travels to the lush and exotic region of Southeast Asia to explore the diverse and fascinating culture of Vietnam. As he journeys through the bustling city streets and picturesque countryside, Jack learns about the country's rich history and traditions, sampling delicious cuisine and local spirits along the way.
With the help of his local guide, Jack begins his adventure in the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh, where he discovers the vibrant street food scene and the impressive French colonial architecture of the city. He then heads to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels where the Vietnamese military hid during the Vietnam War. There, Jack discovers the traditional craft of rice paper rolling and samples some unique rice wine with locals.
Moving on from Ho Chi Minh, Jack travels to the stunning island of Phu Quoc, where he explores the beautiful beaches and dense jungle, learning about the local traditions and customs of the islanders. He visits a pepper farm where he enjoys a refreshing cocktail infused with black pepper and discovers how the spice is grown and harvested.
Next, Jack heads to the mountainous region of Sapa, where he meets with the Hmong people and experiences life in a traditional Hmong village. He learns about the tribe's customs and is treated to a special ritual where he drinks rice wine from a communal jug. He also visits a local herbalist and tries some of her concoctions, including a unique snake wine made with snakes and rice wine.
As his journey unfolds in Vietnam, Jack discovers the many hidden gems and secret treasures that make this country so unique and special. He meets with locals, tries new foods, and experiences the rich culture and history of this beautiful Southeast Asian nation. From the bustling cities to the tranquil countryside, Jack takes viewers on a journey of discovery through one of the world's most fascinating and inspiring places.
