For the Children is the sixth episode of the first season of Brothers & Sisters, a drama series that explores the lives of the Walker family. The episode revolves around several of the Walker siblings and their struggles to balance their personal lives with the demands of their family business and their responsibilities as parents.

The episode begins with Kitty (Calista Flockhart), the youngest of the Walker siblings, receiving a call from a woman who claims to be her mother. Kitty is shocked, as she has always believed that her mother died when she was a baby. The woman, whose name is Ida Holden (Marion Ross), tells Kitty that she has been searching for her for years and wants to reconnect. Kitty is hesitant at first, but agrees to meet Ida for lunch.

Meanwhile, Sarah (Rachel Griffiths), the eldest of the Walker siblings, is having trouble balancing her duties at the family business with her responsibilities as a mother. She is frustrated that her husband, Joe (John Pyper-Ferguson), seems to have an easier time juggling his role as a stay-at-home dad with his own career, and feels guilty that she isn't spending enough time with her daughter, Paige.

Elsewhere, Tommy (Balthazar Getty) is struggling with his own parenting issues. He and his wife, Julia (Sarah Jane Morris), are having trouble getting their 4-year-old son, Cooper, to behave in school. The principal suggests that they have Cooper evaluated for ADHD, which causes tension between Tommy and Julia.

Finally, Justin (Dave Annable) is still adjusting to civilian life after being discharged from the army. He is dating a fellow veteran named Serena (Amanda Detmer), but is struggling to open up to her about his experiences in combat. When he finally does open up, he finds that he and Serena have very different views on the war.

As the episode progresses, each of the Walker siblings is forced to confront their own fears and insecurities in order to navigate the challenges of parenthood. Kitty is torn between her desire to reconnect with her mother and her loyalty to her adoptive family. Sarah learns to embrace the chaos of her life and accept that she may not be able to do everything perfectly. Tommy and Julia work together to find a solution for Cooper, and Justin learns to open up to Serena and trust that she will accept him for who he is.

For the Children is a heartwarming and relatable episode that explores the joys and challenges of parenthood. It showcases the strength of the Walker family, who are able to come together and support each other in their times of need. With its well-developed characters and engaging storylines, it's no wonder that Brothers & Sisters became a beloved and long-running series.
