Captain Planet and the Planeteers is an American animated television series that aired on Cartoon Network from 1990 to 1996. Created by Ted Turner and Barbara Pyle, the show is about a group of teenagers who are given the power to summon a superhero called Captain Planet to help them protect the planet from environmental disasters caused by human actions.

The main characters are five teenagers from different parts of the world: Kwame from Africa, Wheeler from North America, Linka from Eastern Europe, Gi from Asia, and Ma-Ti from South America. They are chosen by Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, to become Planeteers, heroes who use magic rings with the power of earth, fire, wind, water and heart to fight pollution and destruction.

When the Planeteers face a problem they cannot solve on their own, they combine their rings and summon Captain Planet (voiced by David Coburn), a green-skinned, blue-haired superhero with the power to control nature and the elements. Captain Planet has a strong environmental conscience and often reminds the Planeteers and the viewers of the importance of protecting the planet and its creatures.

The villains of the show are mainly polluting industrialists who seek to destroy the environment for their own gain. The main antagonist is Hoggish Greedly (voiced by Ed Asner), a fat and greedy businessman who represents the worst of capitalism and consumerism. Other villains include Verminous Skumm (Jeff Goldblum), who pollutes the air and water with toxic waste, Duke Nukem (Dean Stockwell), who uses nuclear power for evil purposes, and Looten Plunder (Malcolm McDowell), who destroys rainforests and exploits indigenous people.

Each episode of Captain Planet and the Planeteers features a lesson about the environment and the importance of preserving it. The topics covered range from deforestation and animal rights to water pollution and ozone depletion. The show is very educational and tries to raise awareness about the global environmental crisis.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers was a popular show in the 90s, attracting a large audience of children and teenagers. The characters are well-developed and relatable, with each Planeteer bringing their own unique personality and skills to the team. The animation is colorful and detailed, with stunning visuals of natural landscapes and animals.

The show also had a catchy theme song, sung by two-time Grammy Award winner Tom Kenny (the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants). The song encourages the viewers to "take pollution down to zero" and "help Captain Planet defend the Earth".

In addition to the TV series, Captain Planet and the Planeteers spawned a comic book series, a video game, and a movie in development. The show has had a lasting impact on popular culture and the environmental movement, inspiring many young viewers to become more aware of their impact on the planet.

Overall, Captain Planet and the Planeteers is a classic cartoon that combines entertainment with education, promoting a positive message about environmentalism and sustainability. The show's message is more relevant today than ever, and it continues to inspire new generations of environmental activists.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is a series that is currently running and has 3 seasons (65 episodes). The series first aired on September 5, 1990.
