In the second episode of the seventh season of Castle, titled Montreal, we find our favorite mystery writer, Richard Castle, and his partner, NYPD detective Kate Beckett, embroiled in yet another intriguing case. The episode begins with a flashback scene where Castle is shown completing his top-secret work with the CIA. Cut to the present day, Castle and Beckett are vacationing in Quebec, Canada, when their plans are abruptly interrupted by a phone call from their boss, Captain Victoria Gates, who requests their assistance in investigating a murder case that has links to Castle's previous CIA assignment.

The victim in question is a CIA agent, whose body is discovered in a hotel room in Montreal. The victim's possessions, including a briefcase containing sensitive information, have mysteriously disappeared. The CIA is anxious to recover the briefcase before it falls into the wrong hands, and so the agents insist on maintaining jurisdiction over the case. However, Gates is adamant that Castle and Beckett work the case alongside the CIA agents, given Castle's prior experience with the agency.

As Castle and Beckett begin to piece together the clues, they discover that the victim had been meeting with a hacker before his death, and as such, they must also find this person in order to solve the case. All this time, the CIA agents insist on keeping the couple in the dark about the case details, making things harder for them to solve the case.

The investigation takes them on a wild chase across Montreal as they try to uncover the identity of the killer while defying the CIA's restrictions. Castle and Beckett soon find themselves being followed by mysterious figures, and their every move seems to be monitored. As they delve deeper into the case, they soon realize that they are in grave danger and they have to watch their every step to avoid being put away by the CIA operatives tailing them.

As the trail leads them closer to unraveling the secrets behind the murder, Castle and Beckett's relationship is put to the test, as they must work within the boundaries imposed by the CIA and also avoid putting themselves in more danger.

In this episode, Castle is his usual snarky self, coming up with witty one-liners at appropriate moments to ward off the tension. He also injects a good element of humor into the episode, even in the midst of great danger, which helps to keep things interesting. Beckett, on the other hand, is the epitome of cool-headedness, as she balances the pressure of the investigation alongside keeping Castle in check.

As usual, the investigation is filled with twists and turns that keep the viewer's interest piqued throughout the episode. Perhaps what is most notable about this episode is the integration of Castle's backstory, particularly his connection with the CIA. This not only adds an interesting dimension to the character but also provides an opportunity for multiple plotlines to develop throughout the course of the season.

In conclusion, Montreal is yet another great episode of Castle that brings all the elements that have made the show a hit with fans for years. There are enough thrills, laughs, and suspenseful moments to keep viewers glued to their screens from start to finish. Overall, an intriguing case that leaves you feeling satisfied enough with a twist that makes you eager to see what comes next.
