In season 1 episode 4 of Chicago Med titled "Mistaken", the doctors and nurses of the emergency department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center are faced with a series of challenging cases.
The episode begins with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) treating a patient named Karen who is struggling with severe abdominal pain. As they work to diagnose her condition, Karen's husband becomes increasingly frustrated and aggressive. Meanwhile, Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) is struggling to connect with a young boy named Max who has been brought in with symptoms of meningitis.
As the day progresses, Dr. Halstead realizes that Karen's condition may be more serious than they originally thought. He orders additional tests and consults with a specialist, but Karen's husband continues to question their approach. Eventually, Karen's condition deteriorates and the doctors are forced to make a difficult decision.
While all of this is happening, Dr. Manning begins to suspect that Max may not actually have meningitis. She enlists the help of Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), the hospital's psychiatrist, to try and determine the cause of Max's symptoms. Together, they work to unravel a complicated and heartbreaking case.
Meanwhile, the rest of the emergency department is dealing with a variety of other cases. Nurse Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) is trying to help a young mother who is struggling with postpartum depression, while Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) is trying to save the life of a man who fell from a building. Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) is working with an elderly patient who may have been the victim of abuse.
As the day goes on, tensions continue to rise and emotions run high. The doctors and nurses of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center are forced to make tough decisions, deal with difficult patients and families, and try to solve complicated medical mysteries.
With each passing hour, the stakes get higher and the pressure mounts. Will the doctors and nurses be able to come together to save their patients and solve their cases? Or will their own personal struggles and conflicts get in the way? Find out in season 1 episode 4 of Chicago Med.
