In Chicago Med season 3 episode 18, titled "This Is Now," the staff of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center power through ongoing and new medical cases amidst personal hurdles. Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) butt heads when the latter suggests a medical course for Dr. Choi's brother, who has PTSD, but Dr. Choi takes a different approach. Meanwhile, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) fails to impress new Chief of Emergency Medicine Dr. Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) when she asks him to treat a patient more holistically, though Halstead's colleague Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) sees a potential remedy. On another ward, Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) receives a concerning notice that prompts him to investigate a patient's past, leading him to an unusual source. As all the cases converge in one hectic day, the team is tested in different and consequential ways.
