Chopped Tournaments Season 3 Episode 1 Champions' Tournament, Pt. 1
- August 30, 2011
Four returning champions face off against each other in the season 3 premiere of Chopped Tournaments. In the first round, the judges are looking for creativity and technique as the chefs must work with lobster tail, preserved lemons, pink lemons, and coconut milk. The chefs must navigate the tricky texture of the lemons and incorporate the unique flavor of the coconut milk in their dishes. One chef attempts to create an ambitious dish, but will the risk pay off or lead to their downfall?
As the competition heats up in round two, the remaining chefs must work with ingredients that present a different kind of challenge. The secret basket contains quail eggs, bacon bits, mustard greens, and a bottle of red wine. Some chefs struggle with the delicate nature of quail eggs while others are challenged by the bitterness of the mustard greens. And when chef creativity leads to a surprising use of the red wine, the judges are left impressed but still must make a tough decision.
In the final round, the two remaining chefs must channel all their energy and talent as they face off to create the ultimate dessert using raspberries, graham crackers, halva, and dry sherry. The chefs have no time to waste as they try to balance the sweetness of the raspberries with the subtle nuttiness of the halva and the bite of the dry sherry.
Tensions run high as the judges deliberate and ultimately choose the winner of this first part of the tournament. With three more episodes to come, these returning champions must bring their A-game if they want to advance to the finals and potentially win the grand prize. Who will move on to the next round and who will be sent home? Tune in to find out.
