Chopped Season 14 Episode 6 Chopped All-Stars: Judges

In this episode of Chopped All-Stars, the judging panel takes to the kitchen to compete against each other for charity. The four judges, Amanda Freitag, Alex Guarnaschelli, Marc Murphy, and Chris Santos must use their expertise to create delicious dishes using the secret ingredients provided in the mystery baskets.

The first round mystery basket contains sweet potato pie, canned sardines, mustard greens, and almond butter. The judges must quickly come up with an idea on how to use these ingredients in a unique and tasty way. Chef Amanda Freitag is feeling the pressure since she is allergic to sardines and must be careful not to cross-contaminate her dish. Chef Chris Santos runs into trouble when he has difficulty opening the can of sardines and almost cuts himself in the process. The judges each present their dishes to the panel, and while some are more successful than others, the judges must make the tough decision to chop one of their own.

In the second round, the remaining three judges must create a dish using trout, baby turnips, sherry vinegar, and chia seeds. Chef Alex Guarnaschelli takes a unique approach by creating a chia seed pudding to go alongside her seared trout, while Chef Marc Murphy decides to pickle his baby turnips. Chef Amanda Freitag struggles with the chia seeds, which do not cook as she had hoped, but is able to successfully plate her dish. The judges must once again deliberate and send another one of their own home.

For the final round, the remaining two judges must use the mystery basket of quail, rainbow chard, cremini mushrooms, and ponzu sauce to create a dessert. Chef Alex Guarnaschelli decides to take a savory approach by using the quail and mushrooms in a tartlette, while Chef Marc Murphy decides to create a crepe filled with a rainbow chard and quail stuffing. Both dishes are impressive, but only one can be declared the winner.

Throughout the episode, there is friendly banter and occasional teasing among the competitors, but everyone is acutely aware of the importance of the competition and the charities that the winner will support. The judges-turned-competitors display their culinary skills and creativity, impressing both the judges at the table and the viewers at home.
