Come Dine With Me Season 13 Episode 10 Bury - Paula
- September 24, 2010
Bury - Paula is the tenth episode of season 13 of the popular British show Come Dine With Me. The show is a cooking competition where four strangers take turns hosting dinner parties at their homes, with each contestant being scored by their fellow contestants based on the quality of their cooking, hospitality, and overall ambiance.
In this particular episode, we are introduced to four contestants from the town of Bury, located in Greater Manchester, in the north of England. Our first host is Paula, a 49-year-old insurance underwriter who describes herself as outgoing and confident. Paula has been preparing for this night for weeks, and she is determined to put on an impressive show for her guests. Her menu consists of a starter of scallops wrapped in bacon with pea puree, followed by a main course of beef Wellington with roasted vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes, and a dessert of chocolate and hazelnut mousse with raspberry sorbet.
The other three contestants seem impressed by Paula's hosting skills and the quality of her cooking. However, there is some tension in the air, as two of the guests, a retired couple named Terry and Denise, seem to be less than impressed with Paula's personality. They find her to be a bit brash and abrasive, and they worry that she might not be as receptive to their critiques as they would like.
The next evening, it is Terry's turn to host, and he is determined to show the others how it's done. Terry is a retired engineer who prides himself on his culinary skills. He has prepared a menu of smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis for his starter, followed by chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and sun-dried tomato for the main course, and a dessert of apple tarte tatin with clotted cream.
Despite Terry's confidence in his cooking abilities, Paula and another guest, a 35-year-old marketing professional named Charlotte, are less than impressed with what he has to offer. They find his food to be overly salty and lacking in complexity, and they are not shy about sharing their opinions with the others. Terry takes the criticisms in stride, however, and seems determined to learn from his mistakes and improve his cooking for the next evening.
The third evening is hosted by Denise, Terry's wife. Denise is a retired hairdresser who has a reputation for being a bit of a perfectionist. She has prepared a menu of smoked haddock and prawn risotto for the starter, followed by lamb shank with creamy mash and redcurrant jus for the main course, and a dessert of lemon tart with raspberry coulis.
Denise's cooking is widely praised by the other contestants, as is her attention to detail and her ability to create a warm and hospitable atmosphere. However, there is some tension between Denise and Paula, who continue to clash over their differing personalities and cooking styles.
The final evening is hosted by Charlotte, who is originally from Birmingham but now lives in Bury with her husband. Charlotte is an excellent cook, and she has prepared a menu of goat's cheese and fig salad for the starter, followed by fillet steak with fondant potatoes and asparagus for the main course, and a dessert of passionfruit panna cotta with fresh berries.
Charlotte's cooking skills are unanimously praised by the other contestants, although some worry that her menu might be too ambitious given the limited amount of time she has to prepare everything. Nonetheless, Charlotte manages to pull it off, and her guests are left feeling very impressed by her culinary expertise.
In the end, it is time for the contestants to reveal their scores and decide who will be crowned the winner of the competition. Some unexpected twists and turns ensue, and viewers will have to tune in to find out who comes out on top. Suffice it to say that this episode of Come Dine With Me is full of drama, great food, and even greater personalities.
