The episode titled "White Knights" is the fourth installment of the first season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow series. The plot of the episode revolves around the time-traveling superheroes as they travel to the year 1986 to prevent the sale of a nuclear weapon. The baddie of this episode is Valentina Vostok, a Soviet scientist, who is attempting to sell a Soviet nuclear weapon to an unknown buyer.

The team realizes that Vostok's ultimate goal is to sell the weapon to the US government, causing a nuclear war that will destroy the world. They need to stop Vostok before she can carry out this plan and save the world. To do so, they need the help of Dr. Martin Stein and his younger self, who had worked with Vostok in the past and is crucial to stopping her.

Meanwhile, Sara and Snart take on the role of con artists in 1986 and work their magic to get into the parties and organizations that Vostok frequents. They are focused on locating Vostok's buyer while also finding out how and where Vostok intends to sell the nuclear weapon.

The episode does an excellent job of highlighting the concerns of the different characters, who have vastly different concerns and priorities. Rip is focused on ensuring that the original timeline or the world's natural history is not tampered with. Stein is tormented at the idea of working with his younger self, as it threatens his existence. On the other hand, Snart has personal business with Vostok, and he is focused on getting revenge. The character dynamics in this episode is a mix of humor, emotion, and teamwork, making it an enjoyable watch.

One of the most interesting elements of this episode is the historical backdrop. There is plenty of nostalgia in seeing what the 80s were like, from the clothing styles to the music hits. The episode takes place in 1986 during the height of the Cold War and the peak of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union creating a genuinely immersive experience. It's fascinating to see the different ways the characters, who are from different times and places, interact with this history. The team's interactions with an American couple in the middle of a divorce serve as an effective reminder of the consequences of a nuclear war and the urgency of their mission.

The pacing of the episode is well planned, as it balances the action and character development. The scenes are well choreographed and keep you on the edge of your seat. Once the timer runs out, signaling the beginning of the nuclear war, it adds to the pressure and creates a sense of urgency that falls in line with the mission of the crew.

The episode also marks significant character development in Stein's character, who eventually warms up to his younger self. Their interactions show a deep understanding of the character's personalities, and it's fascinating to see them grapple with a significant conflict of interest.

Overall, the "White Knights" episode doesn't disappoint. It is a well-crafted episode that is both entertaining and informative. The episode's emotional depth, historical backdrop, and action scenes make it one of the standout episodes of the first season and a must-watch for every DC's Legends of Tomorrow fan.
