As the fifteenth episode of the 2021 season of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, "Meat and Heat" brings host Guy Fieri to some of the hottest and most meat-centric eateries in the country. From Texas to California and beyond, Fieri explores restaurants that specialize in fiery flavors and top-quality meats.
The episode starts off in Lubbock, Texas at Evie Mae's Pit Barbeque. This barbecue joint is known for its melt-in-your-mouth brisket that's slow-cooked over post oak wood. Fieri learns the art of smoking meat from the Pit Boss, Arnis, who shares his secret to creating the perfect smoked meats. From the tender brisket to the juicy pulled pork and spareribs, Evie Mae's does not disappoint.
Next up, Fieri heads to Detroit, Michigan to visit Nemo's Bar and Grill, where they serve up the legendary Detroit-style pizza. This style of pizza is known for its crispy crust and square shape. Fieri tries the house specialty, the Motor City Meatball Pizza, topped with homemade meatballs, cheese, and a tangy tomato sauce. Nemo's has been around for over 50 years and is a favorite amongst locals and sports fans that want to catch a game while enjoying a hearty meal.
The episode takes Fieri to his home state of California where he visits Boss Hog's BBQ in Vallejo. The restaurant serves up some of the best BBQ on the West Coast, featuring pulled pork, beef brisket, and pork ribs that are smoked to perfection. Fieri is impressed with the fall-off-the-bone texture of the meats and the flavorful sauces that come with each dish. Boss Hog's also offers a unique spicy mac-and-cheese that is a must-try.
Fieri heads to his next stop, Austin, Texas, to visit Gourdough's Public House. This restaurant is famous for its over-the-top doughnuts, but they also have a menu filled with savory dishes. Fieri tries the Hot Mess burger, which is comprised of a juicy beef patty, bacon, peppers, and a fried egg, all sandwiched between two glazed doughnuts. For dessert, Fieri indulges in the ODB doughnut, which is topped with chocolate frosting, Oreos, and peanut butter.
The final stop on this meat and heat-filled adventure takes Fieri to St. Louis, Missouri, to visit The Dam. This restaurant is known for its creative sandwiches, including the "Hound Dog," which combines sliced ribeye with bacon, peanut butter, and Sriracha sauce. Fieri also tries their famous duck-fat fries, which are crispy and perfectly seasoned.
Throughout the episode, Fieri explores the unique flavors and techniques used by each restaurant to create mouth-watering dishes. From slow-cooked meats to spicy sauces, "Meat and Heat" showcases some of the best eateries across the United States.
