Ep 8. Vexcon

Mike Rowe, the host of Dirty Jobs, is known for getting his hands dirty. In the eighth episode of season one, he visits Vexcon, a pest control company based in New Orleans. The job that Mike takes on is both dirty and dangerous, as he learns the ins and outs of the pest control business.

Mike is introduced to Billy, the owner of Vexcon, who shows Mike around the office. Billy has been in the pest control business for over 30 years and tells Mike that he has seen some crazy things over the years. Mike is intrigued and asks Billy to show him some of the tools of the trade.

Billy takes Mike to the back of the building where he keeps his equipment. He shows Mike a variety of traps and sprays, as well as a few things that are not for the faint of heart. Billy then takes Mike on a job to catch a pesky raccoon that has been causing trouble for a family. Mike is surprised to see how easy it is to catch the raccoon using a simple trap. Billy then shows Mike how to remove the raccoon safely and humanely.

Next, Mike accompanies Billy on a termite inspection. They climb into a small crawl space where the termites have been causing damage. Mike is amazed to see how quickly the termites can cause damage to a house and learns that it is important to catch them early on.

After the termite inspection, Billy takes Mike on another job to catch a snake that has been slithering around someone’s backyard. Mike is hesitant at first but realizes that this is just another part of the job. Billy shows Mike how to catch the snake using a snake hook and then safely release it back into the wild.

As the day comes to an end, Mike reflects on the different jobs he has done with Vexcon. He realizes that pest control is not just about getting rid of bugs and animals, but about keeping people safe. Billy tells Mike that he loves his job because he gets to help people every day.
