The Time Meddler, A Battle of Wits, is the eleventh episode of the first season of Doctor Who: The Best of The First Doctor. In this episode, the Doctor (played by William Hartnell) and his companions, Vicki and Steven, land in 1066 England, just after the Battle of Hastings. They soon discover that they are not the only time travelers in the area—someone has been meddling with history.

The Doctor becomes determined to uncover the time meddler's identity and put a stop to his plans. He and his companions stumble upon a monastery where they meet the mysterious monk, who seems to know more about their situation than he lets on.
