Doogie Howser, M.D. season 3 episode 23 "Thanks for the Memories" follows the story of Doogie as he starts to feel the stress of his job as a resident physician. He begins having nightmares and hallucinations, which he tries to ignore, but they start to affect his ability to perform his duties. Doogie's colleagues and family become increasingly concerned about his health and urge him to seek medical help. Doogie's father, also a physician, worries that his son may be experiencing burnout and encourages him to take a vacation to clear his mind.

Meanwhile, a teenage patient of Doogie's, named Jane, is struggling with her health issues. Jane has cystic fibrosis and is in need of a lung transplant. She has been on the waiting list for a long time and becomes increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress. Doogie makes it his mission to do everything he can to help her get the transplant she needs. He spends countless hours on the phone, talking to doctors and transplant coordinators in hopes of finding a match for Jane.

As the episode progresses, Doogie continues to have more nightmares and hallucinations. He starts to lose his confidence in his abilities as a doctor and begins to question whether he has made the right career choice. Doogie's father urges him to take a break from medicine and explore other areas of interest.

Eventually, a donor is found for Jane and the lung transplant is a success. This brings joy and relief to Jane and her family, and also reignites Doogie's passion for medicine. He realizes that despite the stress and difficulties, being a doctor is what he truly loves to do.

The episode ends with Doogie taking some time off to travel and reflect on his career and his life. He returns to work with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to help his patients, including Jane, who he now sees with a newfound appreciation for the importance of his work.
