Jane represents a model in a case against a driver who struck her, and Grayson represents a man against the IRS for attempting to tax the rewards from a game show he won. When Grayson sets out to prove that the IRS is overreaching, he seems to be getting over everyone’s head.

The episode opens up with an awkward conversation between Jane and Owen after his rejection. Meanwhile, Stacy informs Jane on modeling, and how it is far more than just standing on the runway or looking pretty. Upon heading to the office, they all get ready for a branding case for an injured model in what sums up as a complex and intriguing story. The client, Phoebe, is competing with a renowned model and a commercial. The case seemingly looks bleak, despite the fact the client has a lasting relationship with a sponsor.

With Phoebe on board, they start hunting down the witness that saw her getting hit, only to find that the film crew used up all the battery in the camera. Compounded by the fact the driver was listening to music and momentarily distracted incoming a red light, the defense appears to have a strong case. However, with Jane’s key details from Alexis and her dog, and some accounting from Stacy, it turns out the spotlight got washed off in the crash and also the model has lost of earnings for her international work.

As all this is going on, Grayson’s client, Todd, is in a pickle, stuck with the IRS, who is constantly trying to get him to pay taxes on the rewards he won in a quiz show. Grayson finds himself struggling to understand why the IRS is after his client, despite the fact that he already did pay the tax over the rewards he received. Grayson smells something fishy in the works since the IRS has no right to tax him twice. As Grayson digs deeper into the case, more complications arise with one of the show’s production crew stating that was to transfer behind the scenes for the game show. It turns out that Grayson’s case has a connection with the modeling one!

As the proceedings go on, there seem to be no leads in either of the cases, and both Todd and Phoebe’s case could fail. Jane even decides to tell Grayson about the taxing issue, hoping he could help. After days of back and forth, Jane finally stumbles onto a piece of evidence that could save the case. However, it also puts the case in a tricky situation since the company behind the game show ultimately holds the likely answer that could help Grayson’s client. Getting the relevant information out without a tussle or a lawsuit is of the essence.

To further complicate things, a now-intoxicated Phoebe makes her situation worse. She blows off the whole photo shoot, which was her ace in the hole, costing the team some valuable evidence in her case. On the other hand, Grayson also hits a snag, with the IRS threatening to threaten Todd with auditors if he fails to pay them their money. With time running out, Grayson has to find a way to win the case before it’s too late.

The two cases come to a head in one final proceeding, with Jane attempting to seize the last vital solution. As the sessions get comical and fun-filled, the episode takes a dramatic turn when Jane and Grayson concur that each of their cases can contribute to the other one. Jane presents her evidence suggesting an identical modus operandi in the cases, leading Grayson to devise a plan to buy time and compare the evidence.

The outcome is that Jane gets funneled through a mess of bureaucracy as she needles her way through the files and goes out on a limb to get the documents for Grayson. Grayson, on the other hand, manages to come to a solution regarding his client’s tax case.

The show ends with Jane realizing that Owen’s message isn’t so negative, offering to work together in the future. The crew gains their client the compensation she deserved, with the company behind the quiz show realizing their error and fixing the tax. All in all, the case, in turn, generated excitement and brought some of Jane's earlier built-up wit to the forefront in what was an epic trial.
