Jane is representing a woman who has schizophrenia and is being held in a psychiatric facility against her will. Despite her client's insistence that she is not mentally ill, the facility's doctors are unwilling to release her. As Jane fights for her client's freedom, she also struggles with her own feelings about mental illness, which are complicated by her sister's bipolar disorder.

Meanwhile, Grayson is representing a man who claims that his wife is trying to kill him in order to collect on his life insurance policy. The case takes a bizarre turn when the wife is revealed to be a former beauty queen and the man is accused of sabotaging her pageant career. As Grayson tries to unravel the truth behind the couple's troubled relationship, he also finds himself getting drawn into a romance with his client's new girlfriend.

Back at the law firm, Kim eagerly takes on a high-profile pro bono case that could make or break her career.
