Jane and Grayson are still reeling from the revelations about Deb, and both are still trying to adjust to the new realities of their lives. However, their focus is quickly shifted when Deb's rival, Tawny, suddenly shows up at the firm. Tawny is a high-strung, Type-A personality who became Deb's mortal enemy after Deb was chosen to be the face of a major cosmetics line over Tawny. Tawny is convinced that Deb is back and is out for revenge, and she'll stop at nothing to prove it.
Meanwhile, Jane takes on a case for a client who is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, who claims that he broke up with her because of a medical condition she developed. Jane decides to take a unique approach to the case and enlists Fred to help her. Together, they try to prove that the ex-girlfriend is lying about the condition and is only using it as an excuse for the break-up.
Back at the firm, Kim takes on the case of a woman who was fired from her job for refusing to sign a waiver releasing her employer from any liability if she got hurt on the job. Kim quickly discovers that the company has a history of unsafe working conditions and makes it her mission to expose them.
As the episode progresses, Jane, Grayson, and the rest of the gang are forced to deal with their own personal demons, all while fighting for justice for their clients. Tensions rise, tempers flare, and old wounds are reopened as they try to navigate the complicated world of the living and the dead.
In the end, the team comes together to solve the various cases and put their clients in the best possible position. But as they celebrate their victories, they are left to wonder what other surprises the afterlife may have in store for them.
