As the penultimate episode of Empire's fifth season begins, Cookie is still reeling from the news that her father is not her biological father. Meanwhile, at Empire Entertainment, Lucious is getting ready for his big show, which is intended as a tribute to Andre's late wife, and which will coincide with the launch of their new streaming service.

As the show gets underway, Andre is nowhere to be found, leaving Cookie to worry that he has relapsed. When he finally shows up, he reveals that he has an even bigger problem: the FBI has discovered that he was involved in Shine's murder, and they have evidence to prove it.

From here, the episode takes a number of twists and turns, as Cookie and Lucious try to figure out a way to protect Andre from the FBI and salvage their new streaming service launch. Along the way, they must confront their own complicated pasts and relationships, as well as grapple with the inevitability of their own mortality.

Throughout it all, the show is characterized by slick, cinematic cinematography, with sweeping camera movements and dramatic music underscoring the heightened emotions of the characters. The acting is top-notch, with standout performances from Taraji P. Henson as Cookie and Terrence Howard as Lucious, as well as strong supporting turns from series regulars Trai Byers, Bryshere Gray, and Gabourey Sidibe.

Overall, My Fate Cries Out is a tense and gripping episode that sets the stage for what promises to be a dramatic season finale. Fans of the show will be on the edge of their seats as they watch Cookie and Lucious navigate the complicated world of the music industry, family dynamics, and the criminal justice system.
