Extraordinary Places to Eat is a mouth-watering food and travel show that follows Fred Sirieix, the French Maître d' of Michelin-starred restaurant, Galvin at Windows, as he travels across the globe in search of the most incredible dining experiences.
In season 1, episode 1, Sirieix finds himself in the romantic and enchanting city of Venice, Italy. Known for its stunning architecture, winding canals, and delicious cuisine, Venice is a perfect destination for any foodie.
As Sirieix explores the city, he meets up with local expert Marina Balacco, who takes him on a tour of the famous local fish market, the Rialto Market. Here, they marvel at the freshest and most beautiful seafood and learn about the traditional Venetian way of cooking fish. Balacco then introduces Sirieix to her favourite seafood restaurant, Ristorante Da Fiore, where they delight in a meal of grilled squid and black tagliolini with langoustines, washed down with a crisp white wine.
Sirieix also visits the incredible Caffè Florian, which is said to be one of the oldest coffeehouses in the world. Here, in the stunning surroundings of the historic Florian Salon, Sirieix learns about the intricacies of making delicious Italian coffee and indulges in a cup of rich, aromatic espresso.
Next up, Sirieix explores the backstreets of Venice with local food blogger and photographer, Monica Cesarato. Together, they discover the best cicchetti - small, delicious dishes that are served in bars and taverns around the city. Sirieix gets to try some of the most authentic and delicious bites including crab cakes, codfish balls, and crostini with venison.
Finally, Sirieix heads to the exclusive island of Giudecca, to visit one of Venetian cuisine’s most renowned restaurants, Il Ridotto. Here, chef Gianni Bonaccorsi creates imaginative and innovative dishes using the finest local ingredients, and Sirieix has the chance to sample some truly special creations, including an appetiser of seared pigeon, followed by a main course of stuffed rabbit with fresh fennel and artichokes. The meal is topped off with a mouthwatering dessert of a chocolate and hazelnut explosion.
