Challenge: Big Bash Caterers is the second episode of the seventh season of Food Network Challenge. In this episode, four caterers with expertise in catering large events will battle it out in three rounds of culinary challenges for a chance to win a cash prize of $10,000.
In the first round, the caterers must create a savory appetizer and a sweet dessert that can be eaten on the go. The challenge puts their creativity and ability to execute quickly to the test, as they only have 30 minutes to complete each dish. Guest judge and caterer to the stars, Mary Giuliani, will lend her expertise to the judging panel.
For the second round, the caterers must create a main dish that serves 50 people. The catch? They must work outside, using grills and chafing dishes to keep their food hot and ready to serve. The judges will be looking for dishes that are not only tasty but also visually impressive and will appeal to a wide range of partygoers. Guest judge and celebrity event planner, Jung Lee, joins the panel to critique the dishes.
Lastly, in the final round, the two remaining caterers must create a full-scale event for 250 guests, from the cocktails to the appetizers and main course, to the décor and entertainment. The judges will be looking for a cohesive and impressive overall presentation that wows the guests and leaves a lasting impression. Celebrity event planner, Colin Cowie, will lend his expertise to the judging panel.
Throughout the episode, viewers will get to see behind the scenes as the caterers plan and execute their dishes, working through challenges and setbacks along the way. The judges will provide commentary on each dish, offering praise for great execution or constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement.
At the end of the episode, one talented caterer will be named the winner and walk away with the $10,000 cash prize, as well as bragging rights as the Big Bash Catering champion.
