Ep 4. Bench-Clearing Brawl

In Go On season 1 episode 4, titled "Bench-Clearing Brawl," Ryan has a rough day when he experiences both his first date since his wife's passing and a disagreement with his assistant about a mascot for their anger management group.

When Ryan's assistant, Carrie, suggests bringing in a new mascot to liven up their group sessions, Ryan disagrees. He believes that the group doesn't need a mascot to distract them, but Carrie insists that it can help the members feel more comfortable opening up about their feelings. The discussion turns into an argument, leading Ryan to storm out of the meeting and head to his date with Simone.

Things don't go too well on Ryan's first date since his wife's passing, either. Simone talks extensively about her ex-boyfriend and Ryan struggles to make a connection with her. He also feels overwhelmed by their expensive restaurant and admits to being uncomfortable with the cost of the meal. Simone brushes off his concerns and continues to talk about herself, leaving Ryan feeling frustrated and undervalued.

As Ryan leaves the restaurant, he runs into his anger management group, who have just finished their meeting with the new mascot in tow. The mascot, a giant chicken, has caused chaos by accidentally hitting a member in the face with a foam bat. The group is in the midst of a bench-clearing brawl and Ryan is caught in the middle.

Ryan tries to break up the fight and get the mascot out of the group, but things just get more chaotic. Eventually, the chicken is unmasked and revealed to be one of Ryan's group members, Yolanda, who had hoped the mascot would help her overcome her shyness.

After the brawl, Ryan and Yolanda have a heart-to-heart and he realizes that he needs to be more open-minded about the group's needs. He apologizes to Carrie and agrees to give the mascot a chance, leading to a breakthrough moment for the group as they bond over their shared experience.

Meanwhile, Anne struggles with her new job as the group therapist, feeling like she isn't making a difference. However, after the bench-clearing brawl, she realizes that the group members truly do care about each other and exchange heartfelt apologies.

In the end, Ryan mends his relationship with Carrie and agrees to compromise with the group by keeping the mascot around. As the group leaves the meeting, they all gather around the chicken mascot for a group photo, finally finding a sense of unity and levity in their difficult journey towards healing.
