Hayate no Gotoku Season 1 Episode 32 Devil Hunter Welcome Yoko Isumi, and Nabeshin

Hayate no Gotoku! follows the story of Hayate Ayasaki, a hardworking sixteen-year-old boy who helps his parents in their bad habits and debts, resulting in him frequently being taken advantage of. One day, he loses his parents to the yakuza and finds himself burdened with a whopping ¥156,804,000 debt to them. One thing leads to another, and he becomes the butler of a rich young lady named Nagi Sanzenin, with the hope that he will be able to pay off his debts and live a happy life.

Episode 32 of season 1, titled "Devil Hunter Welcome Yoko Isumi, and Nabeshin," begins with Nagi and Hayate watching a famous TV show that involves hunting demons. Yoko Isumi, a renowned demon hunter, is the main star. It becomes a bit prankish when Nagi suggests inviting Yoko to the mansion and Hayate decides to accept the challenge of being Yoko’s prey. Nagi then calls Yoko and sets the plan.

After a while, Yoko arrives at the mansion, and everyone presents themselves to her. Then the hunt begins. Yoko tracks Hayate down and conducts an intense battle around the mansion, which results in the exhaustion of both of them. Meanwhile, the others help Nagi prepare dinner for Yoko and show her around the mansion.

The show makes a significant shift when Nabeshin, an eccentric, afro-wearing director, appears at the front door, accuses Hayate of being in his next project as the male lead and drags him out of the mansion.

Throughout the episode, there are plenty of comedy scenes and semi-fourth-wall breaks, as consistently seen in the series. For instance, at one point, Yoko remarks that the fight going on between her and Hayate is similar to Dragon Quest; she also mentions that she cannot lose to a common thief. These comments poke fun at other anime and JRPGs from Japan.

As the episode progresses, it unfolds why Nabeshin took Hayate, and it was not for the project he talked about earlier. Nabeshin's plan was to devise an elaborate plan to bring the mansion down from a parcel of land to make way for a new highway construction. Nabeshin wants to use Hayate to be an unknowing invincible warrior to make his plan come to pass. However, things quickly turn into chaos when Nagi and Maria follow Hayate into the movie set, and there is a massive action sequence involving a tank, rocket launchers, bazookas alongside Hayate and Yoko’s showdown ensued.

Without giving up any spoilers, Episode 32 of Hayate no Gotoku! is a funny, entertaining, and well-executed episode that keeps the viewer entertained from start to finish. It's a show that employs humor to enhance the storyline for the audience's amusement, as seen in this episode - it’s a must-watch.
