Lucy's Birthday is the eighth episode of the first season of Here's Lucy. In this episode, Lucy Carter is feeling down because it's her birthday and her children and friends seem to have forgotten. Her brother-in-law Harry tries to lift her spirits by taking her out to lunch, but it only makes things worse when she finds out that he's broke and can't even pay for the meal.
Meanwhile, Lucy's children Kim and Craig are busy with their own plans. Kim is working on a school project and Craig is trying to win a date with a girl he's interested in. They both feel guilty for forgetting their mother's birthday but they're too absorbed in their own worlds to do anything about it.
As the day goes on, Lucy starts to feel more and more neglected. She receives a package from her mother with a birthday cake and a note, but it only makes her feel worse. Even the doorman at her apartment building forgets to wish her a happy birthday.
Just when Lucy has given up all hope, Harry comes up with a plan. He has a friend who works for a television studio and he's arranged for Lucy to be on a game show that tapes that night. The catch is that Lucy will have to pretend that it's not her birthday and that she's a contestant like everyone else.
Lucy agrees to the plan and goes to the studio, where she has to answer trivia questions and participate in silly stunts. She's doing well and the audience is rooting for her, but just when she's about to win the grand prize, her children burst onto the set, carrying a birthday cake and singing happy birthday.
The surprise makes Lucy emotional and she breaks down in tears. Her family and the game show host rally around her, singing and celebrating her birthday. In the end, Lucy realizes that she wasn't forgotten after all and that her family loves her.
This episode is a classic example of the heartwarming family dynamics that made Here's Lucy such a beloved sitcom. It's a reminder that even when things seem bleak, there's always someone who cares about you and wants to make you feel special.
