Ep 2. Deadly Waters

In the second episode of season 3 of I Was Prey, titled Deadly Waters, viewers are taken on a heart-stopping journey as several individuals recount their terrifying ordeals of being attacked by wildlife in the great outdoors.

The episode begins with an eerie underwater shot of murky waters as the narrator sets the scene of a serene canoe trip gone wrong. We are introduced to a couple, Toni and Mika, who were enjoying a peaceful day out on a creek until an unexpected alligator ambush takes them by surprise. The couple’s account of the attack is harrowing as they describe how one moment they were paddling, and the next they were fighting for their lives after a massive alligator sinks its powerful jaws around Toni’s legs. As the alligator drags her into the water, Mika is left to make the split-second decision of whether to stay in the canoe, or jump into the poisonous, snake-infested water to save her partner.

The stakes are raised even higher when we meet another victim, Jacob, who was on a family vacation with his wife and young son, enjoying a day of fishing in the Gulf of Mexico when he felt a sharp pain in his leg. Within seconds, Jacob realizes that he has been bitten by a venomous water moccasin, and the situation quickly deteriorates as he succumbs to the effects of the venom.

We are also introduced to Chris, who was on a solo kayaking trip up a peaceful river, when he spots a black bear on the riverbank. Chris takes it in stride, assuming the bear is as curious about him as he is about the bear. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when the bear swims across the river, climbs onto Chris’s kayak, and begins to attack him. The episode then brings viewers on a tense ride through Chris’s fight for survival as he battles the ferocious bear while struggling to keep his kayak afloat in the raging river.

Finally, we meet Danny, who was on a snorkeling expedition in the Caribbean when he was suddenly attacked by a Caribbean reef shark. Danny’s retelling of the experience is bone-chilling as he recounts how he could feel the shark’s rough skin scraping against him as it tried to take bites out of his leg. The situation is made even grimmer as the dive instructor attempts to use his dive knife to fend off the shark, but it quickly becomes apparent that the blade isn’t sharp enough to make a difference.

Throughout the episode, the stories are interwoven with stunning shots of the wilderness and close-up shots of the animals involved in the attacks, adding to the visceral nature of the stories. Interviews with the survivors are filmed in such a way that viewers feel as though they are sitting across from them in a coffee shop, listening to them recount their stories over a hot cup of coffee.

Deadly Waters is an incredibly tense and gripping episode that takes viewers on a journey of survival against the odds. The show does an excellent job of conveying the intensity of the experiences and showcasing the resilience and bravery of the individuals involved. Viewers who enjoy adrenaline-pumping shows that portray the beauty and danger of the great outdoors will not want to miss this episode.
