Although This is Not What I Intended is the third episode of the anime series Kamichu!. The episode follows the protagonist, Yurie, as she deals with the fallout from a well-intentioned wish gone wrong.
Yurie is a middle school student who recently discovered that she has become a god. As a result, she can now perform supernatural feats and is responsible for maintaining the balance between the human world and the spirit world. In the previous episode, Yurie wished for good weather so that her class could go on a school trip, but inadvertently caused a heatwave that made everyone miserable.
At the beginning of this episode, Yurie is still dealing with the aftermath of her mistake. She tries to make amends by giving everyone in her class homemade ice packs, but this only seems to make things worse. Yurie becomes increasingly frustrated as she tries to fix the situation, but her powers only seem to make things worse.
Meanwhile, Yurie's friends Matsuri and Miko are dealing with some problems of their own. Matsuri is trying to keep a group of wayward cats from destroying the school gardens, while Miko is struggling with her feelings for Yurie's crush, Kenji. As the episode progresses, all of these plotlines start to converge, leading to a chaotic and hilarious climax.
One of the strengths of Kamichu! is its ability to balance whimsy and humor with genuine emotional depth. Although This is Not What I Intended is a perfect example of this. The episode is full of silly moments, from Yurie accidentally turning herself into a giant ice sculpture to Matsuri adopting a cat that can fly. However, it also deals with some serious themes, such as the difficulty of accepting responsibility for one's actions and the fear of rejection.
One of the standout moments of the episode comes when Yurie has a heart-to-heart with her grandmother, who is also a god. Her grandmother tells her that part of being a god is accepting that sometimes things won't go the way you intended. She explains that every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow, and that it's important to take responsibility for your actions, even when it's hard.
Overall, Although This is Not What I Intended is a delightful and charming episode of Kamichu!. It showcases the strengths of the series, from its endearing characters to its unique blend of fantasy and slice-of-life storytelling. Whether you're a longtime fan of the show or a newcomer, it's sure to leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart.
