Five child bakers enter the kitchen for season 6 episode 3 of the Kids Baking Championship, titled Brownies vs. Blondies. The contestants must create a delicious batch of brownies or blondies using a secret ingredient revealed by the judges. They have time for prep and baking, but must work quickly to ensure their treats come out perfectly.

The judges for this episode are Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli. They explain the rules and reveal the secret ingredient: grapefruit. The contestants have mixed reactions, but they quickly get to work brainstorming their recipes.

The first contestant to start baking is Jayden, who wants to make a grapefruit-infused blondie with a white chocolate drizzle. He says he loves baking because it's a chance to be creative. He zest the grapefruit and adds it to his batter. However, when he tries adding the juice, he realizes it curdles the mixture. He quickly adapts by adding more flour and eggs, but worries the texture won't come out right.

Next up, Tess wants to create a fudgy brownie with grapefruit frosting. She starts by melting butter and chocolate in a double boiler. She adds the grapefruit zest to the mixture, and it smells amazing. But when she tries adding the grapefruit juice, she realizes it makes the mixture too liquidy. She tries to save it by adding more sugar and flour, but worries it won't bake correctly.

Dominic, the youngest contestant at 9 years old, is working on a blondie with candied grapefruit on top. He is very energetic and excited to bake. He starts by creaming together butter, sugar, and eggs, and then adds in the grapefruit zest. But when he tries to candy the grapefruit, he realizes he has never done it before. He runs out of time to finish his recipe and worries the judges won't like his unfinished product.

Cate is working on a brownie with grapefruit cream cheese frosting. She starts by melting chocolate and butter together, and then adding the grapefruit zest. But when she adds the grapefruit juice, she realizes it makes the mixture too bitter. She tries to balance it out with more sugar and vanilla extract, but is unsure if the flavors will blend well together.

Finally, Emmalee is making a blondie with grapefruit glaze. She starts by creaming together butter and sugar, and then adding in the grapefruit zest. She is worried about the acidity of the grapefruit, so she adds some baking soda to the mixture to help balance it out. She then makes the glaze by mixing grapefruit juice, powdered sugar, and butter together. She feels confident that her recipe will impress the judges.

As time runs out, the contestants rush to finish their baking and presentation. The judges taste each of the treats and evaluate them on presentation, taste, and overall creativity. There are a few standouts, but also some disappointing results.

Ultimately, one baker is named Star Baker for their exceptional brownie or blondie, while another is eliminated from the competition for not meeting the baking standards. The kids leave the competition feeling proud of their hard work and excited for the next challenge.
