When Vanessa's participation in the Outdoor Woman competition is threatened, Mike and Boyd team up to save the day in Last Man Standing season 5 episode 19. Vanessa finds out that her arch-nemesis, the current Outdoor Woman champion, is taking part in the event, and she is determined to beat her. However, she suffers a sprained ankle during a practice run and fears that she will not be able to compete.

Mike, who has always been a supportive husband, comes up with the idea of replacing Vanessa with Boyd, her grandson, as her partner. Boyd, who is enthusiastic about the competition, agrees to take part in Vanessa's place. He, however, believes that the competition is about being in harmony with nature and wants to take an eco-friendly approach to the event. Mike approves of Boyd's idea and suggests that they should make a video about their eco-friendly approach to Outdoor Woman.

Mike and Boyd work tirelessly to prepare for the competition. They plant trees, collect trash from a nearby river, and practice various outdoor activities such as archery and fishing. Meanwhile, Vanessa rests at home, hoping that Boyd will come through for her. She checks in on Mike and Boyd's progress and is impressed with the work they have done.

On the day of the competition, Boyd and Mike arrive at the competition grounds ready to defeat Vanessa's arch-nemesis. They meet her and her partner, who is a professional athlete. Boyd is intimidated and fears that he will not be able to keep up with the professionals. Mike tries to uplift Boyd's spirits and boost his confidence.

The competition begins, and the first event is kayaking. Boyd and Mike are neck-to-neck with their competitors. However, Boyd's eco-friendly approach to kayaking, where he picks up trash from the river as they row, slows them down. The professional athletes take the lead in the kayaking segment.

The next event is archery. Boyd is nervous, and Mike realizes that he has forgotten the bows and arrows at home. Mike motivates Boyd to be resourceful and use natural resources to make their own bows and arrows. Boyd takes Mike's advice and manages to make the bow and arrow with sticks, string, and arrows from the forest. In an impressive display of skill, Boyd hits the bull's eye in the archery competition, putting them in the lead.

The third event is fishing. Boyd and Mike come across a secret fishing spot and set up their fishing lines. However, the professional athletes discover their spot and try to muscle in on their territory. Boyd stands up to the professional athletes and uses his knowledge of nature to outsmart them, ultimately beating them in the fishing event.

The final event is a triathlon, where the teams have to climb a mountain, canoe across a river, and then run to the finish line. Vanessa surprises everyone by showing up at the triathlon, having convinced the doctors to let her compete. She completes the first two events with ease but is exhausted by the time she reaches the finish line. Boyd and Mike are there to support her and carry her across the finish line, winning the competition in the process.

The episode ends with the Baxter family celebrating Boyd's victory, and Vanessa acknowledging Boyd as the youngest person ever to win the Outdoor Woman competition, despite not being a woman. The episode highlights the importance of teamwork, selflessness, and creativity in achieving success.
