Ep 22. A Moving Finale

After six seasons on ABC, "Last Man Standing" moved to Fox last fall and was renewed for a seventh season earlier this year. However, season seven will be the show's last, making it a fitting finale in which to see Mike (Tim Allen) and his work/family colleagues once more.

The episode begins with Mike coming to terms with the fact that he has to leave his land as his family is moving away. Mike is seen struggling to move out of his old house with his wife, Vanessa. They had been living there for years and made many memories which they cherish. As the episode progresses, we see Mike and Vanessa passing on their things to the neighbours who seem pretty happy to own something straight from the Baxter household. With the family’s belongings out on the front yard waiting to be sold, Vanessa’s sister April comes to visit her and the two indulge in a sisterly squabble just like always.

Mike, on the other hand, has another battle to fight at work. Mike has a client who wants a very risky move done on his stocks, and Mike hesitates because he knows the risk involved if things go south. The client becomes increasingly frustrating and Mike soon realizes that he should have stuck to his instincts regarding this situation. While at work, billiards entrepreneur Chuck (Jonathan Adams), restaurant rep Brook (Krista Marie Yu), newlywed Kyle (Christophe Sanders) and his computer programmer wife, Ryan (Jordan Masterson), fellow executives Mandy (Molly McCook) and Kyle (Christoph Sanders) reminisce on everything they’ve learnt in the company.

Finally, after Mike finishes his work duties, he heads back home just when Joe comes to visit. While they talk Mike receives a text reminding them of the fact that they’ve been evicted and have to move out. The friends quickly work up a plan of attack and discuss ways to help ease the move and transport everything to their new location.

As the episode progresses, the Baxter’s begin piecing their belongings together for a garage sale and everyone in their community visits the yard sale including their neighbors, the Larabees. Meanwhile, at Outdoor Man, buyout negotiations have begun, and Vanessa and Mike just want the day to end. During the garage sale, Eve crosses paths with her ex-boyfriend Rob who becomes confused with the fact that she is leaving. Vanessa, on the other hand, gets emotional when her spouse collects a fitting present for her from the items they were selling.

As the day goes into the evening, the last day at Outdoor Man is filled with more and more people visiting to say goodbye to the workplace. Johnathan Adams and Molly McCook in particular have an emotional goodbye scene. Finally, Mike, Vanessa, and the couple’s three children gather for a bittersweet farewell.

Mike and Vanessa have been married for about twenty-two years, and their relationship throughout this time has been incredibly special, fun and loving. Vanessa recounts stories from their life together all while pointing out the items they are selling. Mike, ever the quiet one, tries his best to muster up a dance routine with Vanessa to reminisce. Upstairs, Mandy, Kyle and Boyd go through the boxes of the Baxter family’s memories. Mandy finds a photo album and, flipping through it, realizes that Mike went to her graduation when she was only five years old. The episode then goes back to present day, where Mandy narrates that they will always remember their time working at Outdoor Man with Mike, Angela, and all their friends and family.

In the end, Mike and Vanessa are the last ones in the house making one final walk around it. After tossing the final box into the truck, they share a hug and head to their new home, marking the end of the era. In a fitting farewell, the Baxter family says goodbye to Outdoor Man, its employees, and their beloved old home with fond memories that won’t be forgotten any time soon.
