In this episode of Laverne & Shirley, titled "The Dentist," the duo finds themselves in a bit of a sticky situation when they lose their dentist, Dr. Jablonski, to retirement. They quickly set out to find a new dentist, but their options are limited as they try to find one that accepts their insurance and won't cause too much pain during their procedures.
As they're searching for a new dentist, Laverne becomes increasingly worried about her upcoming appointment, imagining all sorts of horrific scenarios in her head. Meanwhile, Shirley is much more relaxed about the whole ordeal.
Their search leads them to Dr. Benning, a dentist with a bit of a reputation for being a tough cookie, but he's the only one in town that accepts their insurance. They make an appointment and while in the waiting room, they meet a fellow patient named Angie, who has some horror stories of her own about Dr. Benning.
When they're called in for their appointments, the girls are already on edge, but Dr. Benning only makes things worse as he rants and raves about the state of people's teeth and how much he dislikes being a dentist. Laverne is especially fearful and ends up biting Dr. Benning's hand in a fit of panic.
The episode takes a turn as Dr. Benning, now in pain from Laverne's bite, becomes more unhinged and starts reliving old traumas from his dental school days. The girls try to calm him down as he's clearly becoming more and more erratic.
Eventually, Dr. Benning has a breakdown and runs out of the office, leaving the girls to finish their appointments on their own. Despite the chaos, they're both relieved to have made it through the ordeal without too much discomfort.
In the end, the girls are left with a newfound appreciation for Dr. Jablonski and wish they could find him and beg him to come out of retirement. But for now, they're thankful to have made it out of Dr. Benning's office in one piece.
The Dentist is a classic episode of Laverne & Shirley that showcases the duo's comedic talents in the face of a stressful situation. It's a fun watch for fans of the show and anyone who's ever had a less-than-pleasant experience at the dentist.
