Laverne & Shirley Season 3 Episode 19 - The Driving Test
In this episode of Laverne & Shirley, our heroines are faced with the daunting task of taking their driving tests. Laverne, always the confident one, is convinced that she will pass with flying colors while Shirley is a nervous wreck.
As they prepare for their tests, Laverne brags about how easy it will be for her to get her license. She imagines herself cruising down the street with the wind blowing in her hair, honking at cute guys and feeling free as a bird. Shirley, on the other hand, frets about the possibility of failing and the humiliation that would come with it.
The girls set off for the DMV, ready to tackle the exam. Once they arrive, they are greeted by their driving instructor, a gruff and intimidating man named Mr. Ruskin. Mr. Ruskin is not pleased with the girls' giggling and chatting and warns them that they won't be passing if they don't take the test seriously.
Laverne takes the wheel first, confidently starting the car and pulling out of the parking space. However, her confidence soon turns to panic as she struggles to remember the rules of the road. She runs a red light and almost hits a pedestrian, causing Mr. Ruskin to scream in terror. Laverne is mortified but tries to brush it off, insisting that it was just a fluke.
Next up is Shirley, who is visibly shaking as she starts the car. Despite her nerves, she surprisingly does quite well, obeying all traffic laws and impressing Mr. Ruskin with her careful driving skills. However, her good performance is short-lived when a bee flies into the car and lands on her leg. Shirley screams and swerves off the road, nearly crashing into a tree. Mr. Ruskin is not amused and orders her to pull over.
Back at home, Laverne and Shirley commiserate over their poor performances. They worry that they'll never be able to pass the test and start bickering over who is the worse driver. Their conversation is overheard by Lenny and Squiggy, who decide to help their friends out by giving them a few driving tips.
The boys take Laverne and Shirley out for a driving lesson, but it quickly becomes clear that they don't know much more about driving than the girls do. Lenny crashes into a parked car and Squiggy almost runs over a small animal, causing the girls to lose faith in their abilities once again.
Just when it seems like all hope is lost, Laverne and Shirley discover a secret weapon: Mrs. Babish. Mrs. Babish is a kindly old lady who lives in their building and has been giving driving lessons for years. She takes the girls under her wing and teaches them the ins and outs of driving, from parallel parking to navigating rush hour traffic.
Finally, the day of the driving test arrives once again. Laverne and Shirley are nervous, but they feel more prepared thanks to Mrs. Babish's guidance. When it's their turn to take their exams, they approach the situation with a newfound sense of confidence.
As they drive, Laverne and Shirley encourage each other, reminding themselves of everything they've learned. They navigate through the course with ease, impressing both Mr. Ruskin and themselves. When the test is over, they eagerly await their results, feeling proud of how well they did.
In the end, Laverne and Shirley both pass their driving tests, much to their relief and delight. They celebrate by driving around town and honking at cute guys, just like Laverne had imagined. As they speed off into the sunset, they know that they can tackle any challenge if they work together and believe in themselves.
