In the 8th episode of the 6th season of Leave It to Beaver, titled Bachelor at Large, the show follows the story of Beaver's older brother Wally who has recently become a bachelor after breaking up with his long-time girlfriend, Julie Foster. The episode begins with Wally showing off a new blazer that he has purchased for himself to his younger brother Beaver. Beaver is impressed and comments that Wally looks like a "bachelor at large".

Soon, Wally realizes that the single life is not as much fun as he thought it would be. He is lonely and misses Julie. Meanwhile, Beaver is struggling with writing a paper on the Civil War for his history class. When Wally offers to help him, Beaver thinks that his older brother is giving up on his bachelor lifestyle by agreeing to spend time with him.

Wally's friend Eddie Haskell, who is always up for some mischief, suggests that they invite girls over to the house to cheer Wally up. Wally agrees, but soon realizes that he has no idea how to socialize with them. Eddie, on the other hand, has no problem charming the girls with his smooth talk and gentlemanly demeanor. Wally begins to feel even more out of place in his own home.

Meanwhile, Beaver is still struggling with his history paper. His parents, June and Ward, try to help him, but he is still unable to come up with a good thesis. Wally, who has a lot of experience with writing papers, offers to help Beaver once again. This time, Beaver accepts.

Wally and Beaver spend an evening working on Beaver's paper together, which brings them closer and helps Wally forget about his breakup for a brief moment. However, the next day, the girls that Eddie had invited over come to the house looking for him. They had been impressed with his suave demeanor and wanted to see him again. Wally realizes that he's not ready to move on from Julie and is not interested in dating these girls.

In the end, Wally meets with Julie and they talk things out, ultimately deciding to give their relationship another try. Beaver finishes his history paper with Wally's help and receives a good grade on it. The episode ends with the Cleaver family enjoying a peaceful evening at home, content with the way things have turned out.

Overall, Bachelor at Large deals with the themes of loneliness, heartbreak, and personal growth. The episode emphasizes the importance of familial relationships and the value of helping others. It also highlights the challenges of navigating the dating scene and the importance of being true to oneself. The lighthearted humor and relatable storylines make this episode a classic of the Leave It to Beaver series.
