Eleanor and Dave have been living in their current home for more than 30 years. They love their scenic location and the community they are entrenched in, but there's an issue- their home no longer suits their needs. With their two daughters grown and out of the house, their old family home feels far too large and unwieldy. Plus, the couple has another issue: their outdoor pool that hasn't been used in years and has become a massive headache. It's time to renovate their home and transform their backyard into a true oasis, but will they decide to love their home or list it?
Fans of Love It or List It, Too will recognize that co-hosts Jillian Harris and Todd Talbot are back once again to try and help homeowners decide whether to stay put and renovate or sell their current home and find a new one. In this episode, they meet with Eleanor and Dave, long-time homeowners who have considered downsizing for a while without ever taking the plunge.
The episode begins with Todd and Jillian meeting with Eleanor and Dave to discuss their current home, its flaws, and what they want to change so it better aligns with their lifestyle. They quickly realize that the primary issue is the home's expansive size- it's too big and too costly to maintain, but Eleanor and Dave are reluctant to move since the location and community mean so much to them. Instead, they want to focus on renovating the house and its surroundings, starting with the pool, which has become an eyesore and a financial burden.
Jillian is tasked with redesigning the home's interior, and Todd takes on the outdoor space, specifically the pool. They both present their ideas to Eleanor and Dave, who have to decide whether they want to move forward with one team or try another solution.
Jillian wants to update the decor and create a new open-concept layout that will be more functional for the homeowners who spend most of their time in the kitchen and living room. To do this, she considers removing all the walls and creating a second-floor mezzanine to create more storage for Dave's book collection. But will it be enough to keep them in their current house? Meanwhile, Todd plans to give the pool an update by turning it into a more modern and usable space that will be perfect for summer parties.
As construction moves forward, unexpected issues arise as they usually do, including the need for more custom work and expense increases. While Jillian and Todd work tirelessly to address any challenges, it becomes evident that the massive undertaking may cost more than expected.
Ultimately, in the end, it's up to Eleanor and Dave to decide if the renovations are enough to convince them to stay in their current home, or if it's time to sell and find something more suitable. Love It or List It, Too season 4 episode 3 is all about making a difficult decision. Will they choose to love it or list it? You'll have to tune in to find out!
