Ep 3. The Boyfriend Experience

In Making History season 1 episode 3, titled "The Boyfriend Experience," our time-traveling trio sets their sights on a key moment in Dan's personal history. Dan, the history professor and time traveler, is crushingly lonely without his girlfriend, Deborah, who left him in the present day. In an attempt to win her back, Dan uses the time machine to go back in time to the day when he first met Deborah at a college party in 2003. However, Dan quickly discovers that his plan may not be foolproof after all.

As Dan navigates his way through the party, trying to recreate the exact moment he first met Deborah, he realizes that he may have to do more than just say the right things. He may have to become a version of himself that is more confident, more adventurous, and more attractive to Deborah. To do this, he enlists the help of his two companions, Chris and their new friend Stu, to give him a crash course in being a good boyfriend.

Chris takes on the task of teaching Dan how to dance, while Stu instructs him on how to be dominant and assertive. The three of them create a sort of mechanical boyfriend prototype, complete with carefully crafted jokes and conversation prompts, and put it to the test at the party. As Dan attempts to win Deborah over with his new "boyfriend skills," the group realizes that their meddling in the past may have unforeseen consequences.

Meanwhile, Chris is dealing with his own romantic complications. He has become smitten with a woman he met in colonial times, but must grapple with the fact that she is likely to never leave her time period. Chris's longing for his new love interest begins to cloud his judgment, which may put the mission at risk.
