For Worse is the second episode of the first season of Men Women Wild. In this episode, we see two very different couples who are thrust into the harsh wilderness to fend for themselves. The pairs are dropped into the treacherous Mongolian steppe where they must survive with only a few basic supplies and their wits.
The first couple we are introduced to is Eric and Shane. Eric is a former Army captain and Shane is a bartender from Florida. They know each other from their time in the Army and have a history of butt heads. They are given a map, a compass, a knife and a plastic bag to store food with. They are also given a horse to ride.
The second couple is Ruth and Mike. Ruth is an herbalist from Oregon and Mike is a former Navy Corpsman from Texas. They met on a wilderness retreat and fell in love. They are given the same supplies as Eric and Shane, but they must walk to their destination.
As both couples journey across the steppe, they encounter several challenges. The terrain is rugged and unforgiving, the elements are brutal and the wildlife is dangerous. There are snakes, scorpions and wolves around every corner.
The couples must find food and water and must build shelters to protect themselves from the elements. They must also navigate their way across the rough terrain and avoid potential hazards at every turn. It's not long before the teams start to feel the strain and are pushing their physical and mental limits.
Eric and Shane find themselves bickering and clashing frequently. Eric wants to push through the challenge quickly whilst Shane is more cautious. The horse they were given also proves to be more of a hindrance than a help, as it is difficult to control.
Ruth and Mike, on the other hand, work together well as a team. They walk in silence for much of the time, but their mutual respect and love for each other keep them going through each obstacle.
As the couples cross the steppe, they come across small streams that they must traverse. The water proves to be treacherous, and one member of each team falls in. The fall leads to waterlogged supplies, causing the contestants to feel demotivated.
After several days of trekking, all four contestants are tired, hungry, and mentally depleted. They begin to feel the weight of the challenge and the strain of survival on their bodies. They know that if they do not continue, they will fail, and failure means certain death in this harsh environment.
Finally, they each make it to their respective destinations. Eric and Shane are the first to arrive, but they have lost much of their supplies. Ruth and Mike arrive soon after, and whilst they have all their supplies, they are in a state of exhaustion.
Despite all the challenges they have faced, the couples are relieved and proud of themselves for making it through the ordeal. They reflect on the journey they have been on and the strength they have found within themselves. For Worse was a true test of endurance, and these couples proved to themselves that they have what it takes to survive in the worst conditions.
