Ep 4. Miles From Home

In Mountain Men season 1 episode 4, entitled "Miles From Home," we follow the lives of several men as they continue to adapt to life in the wilderness. Tom Oar, on the other hand, is busy preparing for winter. He needs to trap enough beavers to last him through the cold season. Tom sets his traps in a nearby river and patiently waits for a catch. He also needs to make sure that his cabin is prepared for the long, cold winter ahead.

While Eustace and Tom are experienced mountain men, there are others who are struggling to adapt to life in the wilderness. We meet Marty Meierotto, a fur trapper who moved to Alaska with his wife and is struggling to make a living. Marty spends his days checking his trap lines and trying to catch enough furs to make ends meet. He is also dealing with the harsh Alaskan winter, which can be unforgiving to those who are unprepared.

Finally, we meet Rich Lewis, a hunter who is trying to make a name for himself in the mountains of Montana. Rich is on a mission to catch a mountain lion, and he has his sights set on a particular lion that he has been tracking for weeks. He sets out on a hunt, knowing that he may not return empty-handed.

As the episode progresses, we see the different challenges and triumphs that each of these men face. Eustace eventually finds a veterinarian who is willing to come to his location and treat Buckshot, saving him from certain death. Tom catches enough beavers to last him through the winter, ensuring that he can survive in his remote location. Marty catches a few furs, but he knows that he needs to do better if he wants to make a living in Alaska. Rich, meanwhile, has a close encounter with the mountain lion he has been tracking, but he ultimately decides not to kill it.

Overall, "Miles From Home" is a compelling look at the lives of men who have chosen to live in the wilderness. Through their struggles and triumphs, we gain a deeper appreciation for the challenges of living off the land.
