Ep 1. Into the Wild

In the second season premiere of Mountain Men, titled "Into the Wild," viewers are introduced to three of the show's main characters: Eustace Conway, Marty Meierotto, and Tom Oar. Eustace is a naturalist who has been living off the land in North Carolina for over 30 years; Marty is a skilled trapper and outdoorsman who lives with his family in Alaska; and Tom is a veteran trapper who lives in Montana with his wife, Nancy.

Throughout the episode, each of these men faces their own unique challenges as they navigate the wilderness. Eustace, for example, is dealing with the aftermath of a devastating flood that has destroyed much of his property. As he works to rebuild his homestead, he must also contend with a visit from a team of government officials who are investigating a complaint they received about his property.

Meanwhile, Marty is preparing for the upcoming trapping season, which is crucial for his family's survival. He's also dealing with the fact that his trapping partner from last season, Kyle, has decided to pursue other opportunities, leaving Marty to work alone.

Finally, Tom is faced with the daunting task of building a new cabin in the remote wilderness. He and his wife have recently moved to a new location, and Tom must construct a place for them to live before the harsh Montana winter sets in.

As the episode progresses, we see each of these men using their unique skill sets and knowledge of the land to overcome these challenges. Whether it's Eustace using a hand-cranked saw to cut the lumber he needs for his repairs, Marty setting traps and checking his lines, or Tom using traditional tools to build his cabin, each man demonstrates a deep respect for the natural world around them and a determination to live off the land.

One of the recurring themes of "Into the Wild" is the importance of self-reliance and community in the wilderness. We see Eustace calling on his friends and neighbors to help him rebuild after the flood; Marty receives advice and guidance from his fellow trappers; and Tom relies on his wife for companionship and support as he works to build their new home.

Ultimately, the episode ends with each of these men still facing significant challenges, but with a sense of optimism and determination that suggests they will be able to overcome them.
