In Murder, She Wrote season 4 episode 21, titled "Deadpan," Jessica Fletcher finds herself embroiled in a murder mystery once again. This time, she is visiting her old friend Professor Preston Giles in New York City. The professor is a renowned ceramics expert, and Jessica is thrilled to see him and his latest creations.

However, when one of the professor's colleagues, Professor Eugene McClenden, is found dead in his office, Jessica once again becomes involved in solving the crime. The police are quick to arrest the professor's research assistant, a young woman named Sally, as the prime suspect. However, Jessica is convinced that Sally is innocent and sets out to prove it.

As Jessica delves deeper into the case, she realizes that there are several people who could have had a motive for killing Professor McClenden. The professor had been working on a groundbreaking project to determine the authenticity of ancient Greek ceramics, and his findings had upset many in the art world. The most prominent of these detractors is a wealthy collector named Julian Lord, who had a heated argument with McClenden just days before the murder.

Jessica also discovers that McClenden's research was being funded by a mysterious benefactor who wished to remain anonymous. As she uncovers more information about the project, Jessica becomes convinced that the identity of the benefactor is key to solving the murder.

With the help of her friend Preston and a few other allies, Jessica sets out to unravel the web of deceit and discover the truth behind Professor McClenden's murder. Along the way, she encounters several suspicious characters, including a snobbish art dealer, a conniving museum curator, and a smarmy gallery owner.

As the investigation reaches its climax, Jessica finally pieces together the clues and reveals the killer's identity. The resolution of the case is satisfying, but not without its share of twists and surprises. Once again, Jessica has proven herself to be a master sleuth, using her wits and intuition to solve the most difficult of crimes. And as always, she does it with her trademark wit and charm, making Murder, She Wrote season 4 episode 21 "Deadpan" an entertaining and enjoyable watch.
