Ep 2. Tsuyukami's Shrine

Natsume's Book of Friends follows the story of Natsume Takashi, a teenage boy who possesses the ability to see spirits and monsters. In episode 2 of season 1, titled "Tsuyukami's Shrine," Natsume continues his quest to return the names of the spirits that were taken by his late grandmother, Reiko. Together with his cat spirit bodyguard, Nyanko-sensei, Natsume heads off to a local shrine to investigate a mysterious spirit that has been haunting the area.

The spirit, a tsuyukami, is revealed to be an old deity of the shrine who has been forgotten by humanity and wishes to take revenge. In her anger, the tsuyukami has been causing strange phenomena around the shrine, including making the rain fall constantly.

In order to stop the tsuyukami, Natsume must find a way to return her name. He discovers that Reiko had taken the tsuyukami's name in the past and left it in one of her diaries. Natsume and Nyanko-sensei search the surrounding area for the diary, but are confronted by a group of other spirits who do not want the tsuyukami's name returned.

Natsume must rely on his wits and his knowledge of spirits to overcome the obstacles in his way. He uses his ability to see spirits to avoid the traps set by the other spirits, and eventually finds the diary. With the tsuyukami's name in his possession, Natsume returns it to her, breaking the curse that was causing the rain to fall.

In the end, Natsume and Saki return to the real world, and the shrine is restored to its former peaceful state. The episode ends with Natsume reflecting on the importance of returning the names of the spirits his grandmother had taken, and promising to continue his quest to do so.
