Ep 1. Episode 1

In this first episode of Natsuyuki Rendezvous, we are introduced to the main character, Hazuki. Hazuki is a young man working at a flower shop who is desperately in love with the owner of the shop, a woman named Rokka.

Despite his attempts to confess his feelings to Rokka, she is still grieving over the loss of her husband, Atsushi, who passed away years ago. Hazuki is aware of her situation, but he can't help yearning for a chance to be with her.

One day, he overhears Rokka talking to someone who is seemingly invisible. She is telling this person that she wishes she could see him again, and Hazuki starts to wonder who she is talking to.

As it turns out, Rokka is talking to the ghost of her deceased husband, Atsushi. Hazuki can see him too but quickly shifts his attention to Rokka's reaction to seeing him as he attempts to help her overcome her grief.

As the episode progresses, Hazuki finds himself growing closer to Rokka, not just because of his feelings for her but out of genuine concern and affection. He is even willing to help Atsushi pass on and leave Rokka in peace.

The interactions between the three characters are the highlight of the episode, with the tension between Atsushi's ghost and Hazuki growing. Rokka's feelings towards both men feel genuine, and it's clear that her past and the memories she has of Atsushi are what's holding her back from moving on.

The animation is beautiful, with a lot of attention paid to small details like the flowers in the shop and the shadows cast by the sunlight. Music is also used well, especially during scenes where Rokka is talking to Atsushi's ghost, creating a sense of melancholy and longing.

Overall, episode 1 of Natsuyuki Rendezvous is incredibly well done. It sets up the premise and characters in a way that is gripping and emotional, leaving the viewer invested in what happens next.
