In the ninth episode of the first season of No Reservations, host Anthony Bourdain travels to New Zealand for an unforgettable culinary adventure. Dubbed as the "land of the long white cloud," Bourdain explores both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, famous for their unique and diverse landscapes.

Bourdain's first stop is in Auckland, where he explores the local food scene, including a glimpse into the world of food trucks. He samples some local treats such as a BBQ pork bun and a venison sandwich, before heading to the famed west coast beaches of Karekare. There, he experiences the traditional Kiwi beach BBQ, where he cooks up some snapper and learns how to crack open a pilchard.

Next, Bourdain heads to the Bay of Islands in the far north of New Zealand, where he hops on a boat to explore the stunning landscape and learn how to catch fish using the traditional Maori fishing techniques. In Russell, Bourdain spends his evening grilling with locals and trying out the meats from a spit roast.

A trip to New Zealand wouldn't be complete without exploring the country's stunning natural wonders, and Bourdain does just that in episode 9. He visits the Waitomo Caves, where he experiences the famous glowworms and learns about the local conservation efforts in preserving these unique creatures. He also takes a plunge in the cold waters of the Kawarau River in Queenstown, home to some of the world's most extreme adventure sports.

Back on the North Island, Bourdain visits the Te Awamutu Market, a place that captures the essence of the diverse cultures that make up New Zealand. He samples some delicious baked goods and takes part in a cultural performance by the local Maori tribe. Later, he stops by Taupo, where he goes fly fishing and learns more about the efforts to protect New Zealand's natural resources.

Finally, Bourdain makes his way down to the South Island and Christchurch, where he checks out the city's resilience after the devastation of the 2011 earthquake and explores the recovery efforts underway. He tries out some of the local street eats and experiences the hospitality of locals during his stay.

Throughout the episode, Bourdain meets fascinating people and experiences the unique blend of cultures that make up New Zealand. From the traditional Maori culture to the European influence, Bourdain is immersed in the culinary traditions of this stunning country. The episode captures the essence of New Zealand's diverse landscape, rich cultural history, and warm hospitality, making it a must-watch for any food and travel enthusiast.
