In North Woods Law season 2 episode 6, titled "Racking Up The Bad Guys," viewers are taken back into the harsh reality of the daily duties that come with working in law enforcement. This episode highlights the officers working in New Hampshire, where they are trying to prevent illegal poaching, hunting and fishing activities.
The episode starts with an introduction to the crew of conservation officers; despite the grim and challenging nature of their work, the officers are passionate about their job, putting in long hours and seemingly endless energy to protect wildlife in the northern woods.
A night patrol shows the team working together to achieve their objective. While patrolling one of the key areas, the team spots a red truck driving on the dirt road at night, the vehicle has a headlight issue and the driver is desperate to get to where he is heading. The team immediately concludes that the driver is hiding something and decides to follow him.
Noticing the truck, the team keeps a safe distance to avoid the suspect from noticing their presence. They follow the truck for miles, and finally, the suspect stops the vehicle and grabs his rifle from the back seat.
As they monitor him, the suspect gets off the truck, and to their surprise, they find poached deer in the back of the truck. Upon closer examination, they find that the deer has been tagged. However, the tag has another person's name on it, leading the crew to deduce that something illegal was happening.
The suspect is unaware of the officer's presence, so they take this as an opportunity to arrest him. The team quickly surrounds him and the officers read the suspect his rights, ending another illegal poaching attempt in the woods.
The next day, the team embarks on a mission to catch illegal fishermen who refuse to heed warnings and notices. The conservation officers, combing a stretch of the river where there has been high fishing activity, hope to put an end to these fishermen's activities to protect the fish that call this stretch of river home.
The team sets up multiple boats in the river, with every officer appearing focussed and geared towards the task at hand. They drive the boats upstream and downstream, searching for anyone breaking the fishing regulations.
As they patrol one of the areas, they come across an older man who, upon seeing the team, is startled and quickly moves his fishing gear to the side of the bank. The officer questions him and asks for his fishing license, but the man fails to present it resulting in a citation for fishing without a license.
The next part of the episode sees the conservation officers tracking down an unwanted monster that has been going through the defendant's neighborhood. The beast is a massive black bear that is twice the size of an average bear, making him a cause of concern for the residents.
After finding paw prints and hair samples linking him to homes, the team moves into action to prevent any harm to the residents. They hunt down the bear, trap it, and relocate it in the woods.
Throughout the episode, the conservation officers display their courage, strength, and determination in keeping the woods safe. They embody the true meaning of 'law and order' in the northern woods, dedicating their time and energy to protecting wild animals, and ensuring that the law is upheld while doing so.
